Slide Gate Repair

Track, roller, chain, and operator repair for rolling slide gates – including off-track and structural fixes – throughout the Houston Metro area.

Why Slide Gates Fail

A slide gate rolls along a track on wheels, pulled by a chain or gear-driven operator. Because the whole gate is in constant motion across that track, slide gates wear differently than swing gates – most problems start as a mechanical issue: a worn roller, a bent track, a loose chain, or a gate that has dropped off its guides.

Left alone, a mechanical problem turns into an electronic one – a binding gate forces the operator to strain until the board or motor fails. We repair both the gate and the operator, and because we run a welding and fabrication shop, the structural work that most companies subcontract gets handled in-house.

Where Slide Gates Wear

Track & Rollers

V-groove rollers and the track they ride wear, bend, and collect debris. This is the most common slide gate failure and the leading cause of binding and off-track gates.

Chain & Operator

The drive chain stretches and slips off the sprocket, and the operator's board, motor, or limits can fail. We service the operator and the drive together.

Frame & Guides

Guide rollers, the catch post, and the gate frame take impact and fatigue. Cracked welds and a bent frame are fabrication repairs we handle in-house.

Common Slide Gate Problems

Mechanical & Track

A slide gate that grinds, binds, or jumps the track almost always points to worn V-groove rollers or a bent track. Debris in the track and a dropped guide roller do the same thing.

A loose or stretched chain shows up as a gate that jerks, slips, or stops partway – and a chain that comes off the sprocket stops the gate entirely.

Typical Symptoms

  • Grinds / binds: rollers or track
  • Off the track: rollers or guides
  • Jerks / slips: chain tension
  • Stops partway: obstruction or limit
  • Won't open for traffic: loop detector

When It's the Operator

No response, random reversing, or a gate that won't close can be the control board, photo eyes, safety edge, or loop detector. On commercial operators these must stay UL 325 compliant, so we repair rather than bypass them.

Fix the Cause, Not the Symptom

Replacing an operator on a gate with a bent track just wears out the new operator. We straighten or replace the track, set the rollers, tension the chain, and align the gate – so the operator isn't fighting the gate every cycle.

Heavier structural work is covered under gate welding repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my slide gate keep coming off the track?

Usually worn V-groove rollers, a bent or debris-filled track, or a misaligned guide roller. Putting the gate back on without correcting the cause just lets it derail again. We find what's pushing it off, replace the worn parts, and realign the gate so it stays on its track.

Can you fix a bent slide gate track?

Yes. Because we have a welding and fabrication shop, we straighten or replace bent track and repair the welds and frame – work most gate companies have to subcontract. A true, level track is what keeps rollers and the operator from wearing out early.

My gate jerks and the chain came off. Is that a big repair?

Often not. A chain that slips or comes off the sprocket usually just needs re-tensioning or replacing, along with checking the sprockets for wear. We re-seat and tension the drive and confirm nothing else is binding the gate.

Do you repair both residential and commercial slide gates?

Yes. We service residential rolling gates and large commercial slide gates at businesses, apartments, and gated communities, including the heavier operators and loop detectors those installations use.

Should I repair my slide gate or replace the operator?

It depends on the age and condition. A worn roller or stretched chain is a straightforward repair. If the operator is old, failing repeatedly, or no longer supported, replacement can be the better value – we'll give you an honest assessment and can show you new slide gate operators if that's the right call.
